Holmes (now Joy Harris and the mother of one of Indiana’s most famous boys basketball players this year, Gary Harris of Hamilton Southeastern) was also a dominant force for Purdue. Gearlds was an effective scorer from the beginning of her career at Purdue to the end. The Beech Grove, Ind., native scored 1,974 points for the Boilermakers from 2004 through 2007, ranking her fourth all-time. Her three-point shooting ability set her apart, as she is first all-time with 628 three-pointers in her career. In 2007, Gearlds won both the women's and overall State Farm College Three-Point Championships. In the same year, she set the school record for most points scored in a game with 41 against Wisconsin and tied Stephanie White for most points scored in a season with 707. Gearlds was named first-team All-Big Ten in 2006 and 2007. After her senior season, Gearlds was selected in the WNBA draft by the Seattle Storm, and she presently plays in Spain.
From 1995 to 1999, Figgs was an outstanding point guard for Purdue earning her the 1999 Final Four Most Outstanding Player Award. During her senior year, she led the Boilermakers to the NCAA national championship averaging 16.3 points and 4.5 rebounds a game. She was named first team All-Big Ten as well as Associated Press and Kodak honorable mention All-American. This Georgetown, Kentucky native was selected by the Los Angeles Sparks to play for three seasons. She continued her WNBA career playing for the Portland Fire, and finishing as a Houston Comet. Figgs was inducted into the Purdue Intercollegiate Athletics Hall of Fame in the fall of 2007.
A unique left-handed backcourt player with natural basketball savvy graced the Purdue Boilermakers with her talent. She had tremendous ability to penetrate to the basket and either score or set up a teammate and was a dangerous outside shooter, quality rebounder, and defender. She helped lead Purdue to a NCAA Womens Division I Basketball Championship in 1999 and was a two-time Kodak All-America in 2000 and 2001, as well as being named to the 1999 and 2001 NCAA Womens Final Four All-Tournament Team. In 2001, she received a number of awards including the Big Ten Conference "Player of the Year" and the Silver Basketball from the Chicago Tribune. Douglas also received the 2001 Big Ten Conference Suzy Favor Award, which is given to the conference's female athlete of the year across all sports. Douglas was selected the 10th overall pick by the Orlando Miracle in the WNBA Draft.
